Mike Stiger Region D Rider Educator
Dear Mike,
On September 23rd, we held a MEDIC FIRST AID® “Update Training” with Carol Basel, Region MFA Trainer, for the MFA instructors in Michigan. The instructors had completed the required online update that would allow them to present the new Version 6.0 First Aid/CPR. However, in conversations with Carol and the instructors, it was clear to me that few felt the online ‘training’ adequately prepared them to teach the new material. Carol and I agreed that a day of “training” would be beneficial. We held the session in our home to provide an informal setting that would encourage relaxed and open discussion. All those involved in the “Update Training” with Carol were glad to have had the opportunity to go over the new material, have further discussion on certain points and receive answers to questions. While I’m not a First Aid/CPR instructor and I did not do the online update, I could see that our Michigan Instructors are much better prepared to present the new Version 6.0 after spending the day with the Region D MFA Trainer. Everyone who was present that day felt it was time well spent as they are now much more confident with the knowledge they have gained.
Considering the importance that GWRRA places on quality training and education, I would highly recommend that all GWRRA MFA instructors attend similar sessions with their respective MFA Trainers.
I would like to add that Carol Basel should be very highly commended for the time and effort she has brought to the GWRRA MFA Program in Region D. She has, on this occasion and others, given up much of her time to travel to Michigan any time we request to ensure that our MFA program is top-notch. She has spent countless hours on the phone with me and the instructors guiding us and making sure that we are comfortable with all aspects of the Program. It is Carol’s dedication that has helped our instructors to be all that they can be.
Sincerely, Tom and Shelly Rushman MI Senior District Educators |

MFA has came out with a new 6.0 version which covers the new CPR techniques. Carol Basel, our Region D MFA Instructor Trainer, has been diligently working to update our instructors with this new program. She has completed the update training for both Michigan and Ohio and has done an outstanding job in bringing our instructors up to speed to better serve our members. The following is a letter I received from Tom and Shelly Rushman expressing their gratitude for Carols efforts. Thank you Carol for your outstanding service to Region D. |
